Not long ago, renowned Urdu poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz penned down a masterpiece titled Mujhse Pehli si Mohabbat, the nazm was later sung by Noor Jahan in her mesmerising voice. Faiz was so enthralled by Noor Jahan’s rendition of his Nazm that he gifted it to her. Faiz is the kind of poet who writes poetry from the depths of their heart, feeling every inch of every word and dipping it deep in the wells of sentiments. His poetry has the power of igniting strong emotions. The line Mujhse pehli si mohabbat mere mehboob na mang beautifully manages to capture the bewilderment of love, pain and separation.
Here is a heartfelt story that has been created around Faiz’s Nazm Mujhse pehli si mohabbat. It is a tragic tale of two lovers caught between circumstantial misery and despair. As unbelievable as it may sound, even in these times, hundreds of people in and around our country still face the horrors of honour killing in the name of cast, creed, race and religion. This is a tribute to those people.
